WASHINGTON, D.C., August 7, 2026 — Common Sense America (CSA) President and Founder Steve Crim issued the following statement after President Donald J. Trump signed a proclamation imposing Section 232 tariffs and minimum import price requirements on polysilicon and its derivatives.
“We applaud President Trump for once again using Section 232 to shield a strategic American industry from unfair foreign competition, just as his administration has already done for steel, aluminum, and copper. Cement — a $159 billion American industry supporting 577,000 jobs that carries the same national security weight but remains completely excluded from Section 232 protections — deserves that same action, and we urge the administration to launch a Section 232 investigation into foreign cement without delay.”
