American Foundations Urges Domestic Cement Production Boost to Support New Trump Housing Initiative

Common Sense America President and Founder Steve Crim issued a statement following the release of President Donald J. Trump's executive order (EO) "Stopping Wall Street From Competing With Main Street Homebuyers."

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 26, 2026 — Common Sense America President and Founder Steve Crim issued a statement following the release of President Donald J. Trump’s executive order (EO) “Stopping Wall Street From Competing With Main Street Homebuyers”:

“President Trump’s focus on affordable housing signals a bold injection of energy to solve a vexing problem for millions of Americans: the high cost of living. In addition to leveling the playing field for everyday home buyers, we need to bring down housing costs by building more homes. But burdensome permitting regulations and an over reliance on foreign building materials have hollowed out the American Dream for far too many families and made it increasingly difficult to buy or rent a home.

“In order to achieve the President’s ambitious housing affordability goals, we need to increase manufacturing of domestic construction materials – starting with cement. We can’t build homes without it, but we’re producing less of it here in the U.S. each year, and we’re increasingly relying on low-quality foreign cement to fill the gap.

“To complement today’s historic announcement, we urge the Trump administration to make Build America, Buy America requirements include domestic cement so that we can build ample amounts of high-quality homes on strong and reliable foundations for the American people.”
